Another Canada Day has come and gone, a holiday that has come to mean many things to me. I still remember the first Canada Day we celebrated together; I still remember the joy. We may have missed the fireworks that night, but neither of us seemed to mind.

On 8th Street you told me you really thought I was going to marry that sailor.

Yeah, me too.

So, as this year's celebratory fireworks fade to smoke, I'd like to propose a toast: to us, to the rest of our lives,
and to love, and everything that is done in its name.

Happy Canada Day, everyone. In this northern land, we are free to love, and be ourselves without fear.

And that's something worth celebrating.
